As a Connecticut family and newborn photographer, I talk to so many parents who tell me the same things before booking a session:
“We’re so busy right now.”

And honestly? I completely understand. As a mom myself, I know how quickly life moves and how easy it is to push photos further down the priority list.
But if there’s one thing I wish every parent knew before booking a photography session, it’s this:
You will never regret taking family photos.

Family Photography Is About Connection, Not Perfection
One of the biggest worries parents have before family photos is whether their kids will behave.
Please hear me when I say: your children do not need to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera the entire time.
Some of the most meaningful family photos happen in the in-between moments. Snuggling your little ones. Laughing together. Holding hands. Letting your kids be themselves.
My goal during a session is never perfection. It’s capturing your family as you are right now.

As we wrap up another incredible year at The Flash Lady Photography, it’s amazing to look back at how much has happened since opening our brand-new studio space here in Newington, CT. From newborn snuggles to smash-cake giggles to empowering professional portraits, 2025 has been filled with milestones we feel genuinely honored to document.
This year, we welcomed 226 client sessions, and we’re still counting as we close out the holiday season. One of the biggest indicators of growth has been our ability to serve more families than ever before through our controlled studio environment and expanded offerings.

A Year Full of Milestones
Parents from across Connecticut trusted us to help celebrate some of the most meaningful moments of their children’s lives:
- 31 newborn sessions capturing those fleeting first days
- 29 cake smash sessions filled with laughter and messy frosting
- 27 milestone and family portrait sessions
- 16 First Year Baby Plan clients completing a full year of photographs
- 4 senior portrait sessions, either having siblings or photographed themselves at a young age, and returned to have me take these special milestone photos

A Big Year for Professional Branding and Headshots
With more businesses investing in modern branding content, we saw a rise in studio and on-location sessions for Connecticut professionals:
- 32 headshot sessions in the studio
- Multiple corporate branding projects on-site
- Headshots created for the Board of Directors at MDC
- Photography services for candidates in the Newington local elections
We also captured four special events, such as birthday parties and a First Communion.

Record-Breaking Christmas Mini Sessions
Our holiday season saw a big jump this year with 94 Christmas Mini Session clients (and counting), far surpassing our usual average of 80 families. Being able to leave the setup in the studio after Thanksgiving made that possible.
We also introduced VIP Christmas Sessions for the first time, and 20 families chose this elevated experience that provides extended time, more images, and some extra special features.

Alongside an increase in sessions, 2025 was also a big year for beautiful printed artwork. Our most popular product continues to be the 10×10 Signature Album, a handcrafted, heirloom-quality book designed to preserve your favorite images for decades. During the holiday season, our Bamboo Ornaments and custom Holiday Cards were client favorites. I’m so excited to share what’s been happening behind the scenes (and in front of the camera) here at The Flash Lady Photography! My brand-new studio has officially opened its doors, and it’s already transforming the way I can serve my clients.
For years, my goal has been to create a welcoming, comfortable space for all types of sessions, from newborns and families to high school seniors and now, brand photography. This new studio in Newington, CT, brings everything together under one roof. It’s bright, flexible, and designed to grow with my clients as they move through every season of life, both personally and professionally.

A Peek Behind the Scenes
Setting up the studio has been such a rewarding process. From choosing the perfect wall colors and natural light tones to finding props that complement every type of session, I wanted this space to feel like me: calm, creative, and full of possibilities. Watching the first rays of midday light fill the room or seeing clients walk in and immediately relax reminds me exactly why I built it. This studio isn’t just four walls; it’s a space designed to bring stories, relationships, and brands to life.

A New Space for Creativity and Collaboration
One of the biggest joys of the new studio is its flexibility. The lighting is absolutely gorgeous, and I can customize the setup to fit each client’s needs. From cozy portraits to clean, modern branding sessions, we can do it all without worrying about weather, space, or distractions.
It’s also been amazing to collaborate with other local professionals. Recently, we welcomed Susan Leckowicz and her team from Dental Coaches for a special branding session. We created a mock lifestyle workshop right in the studio to give her photos a natural, authentic feel without disrupting her real office during business hours. The result? Bright, professional images that perfectly represent her brand and look incredible on her website.

Fifteen years.
It’s hard to believe how much life, love, and laughter have passed through my lens since I started The Flash Lady Photography. What began with a small setup, a stage, and a wall full of magnetic backdrops has now grown into a beautiful new studio that finally feels like the perfect reflection of my business and my clients.
This fall, I celebrated 15 years in business and the grand opening of my newly renovated studio here in Newington, Connecticut. Over 75 friends, clients, and community members joined us for an unforgettable night full of hugs, laughter, and happy tears. We even welcomed the mayor, a state representative, and members of the town council for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a very special proclamation. Seeing everyone gathered together was such a full-circle moment!

When I looked around that night, I saw so many faces who’ve been part of this journey, from my earliest clients to my networking group friends, to those who donated gifts for the giveaways, to the family and friends who helped us celebrate this milestone. My daughter, who’s now twelve (going on eighteen), proudly helped host, and my husband Frank worked tirelessly behind the scenes (and, yes, teared up during my thank-you speech).

It reminded me just how much community matters. I said it that night, and I’ll say it again here: small businesses aren’t guaranteed. We can’t be here for you if you aren’t here for us. And support doesn’t always have to mean spending money; it can be as simple as liking a post, sharing a photo, or telling a friend about a local business you love. Those little actions mean so much.
From Humble Beginnings to a Dream Studio
When I opened my first studio, it was tiny. Charming, but tiny! As my business grew, so did the types of sessions I offered. I went from photographing weddings only part-time to gradually taking on newborns and toddlers to maternity portraits, headshots, family milestones, Christmas mini sessions, and even extended family groups. Before long, I knew the space no longer matched my brand or the full-service experience I wanted to provide.

Fifteen Years of Growth and Gratitude
Reaching fifteen years feels surreal. Many businesses don’t make it to five, and I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who’s supported me along the way. Some of my current clients are now high school seniors who were little kids when I first photographed them. It’s the most incredible full-circle experience.
Over the years, my photography style has evolved, but my goal has stayed the same: to create timeless images that tell your story. While trends come and go, I’ve always believed in a mix of classic portraiture and authentic connection. I want you to look back on your photos ten or twenty years from now and still love them, not because they were trendy, but because they captured you.

1. Plan Your Christmas Outfits Ahead of Time
Coordinating outfits is one of the simplest ways to make your photos look polished. You don’t have to match perfectly! Think more along the lines of “coordinating.” Choose a color palette with 2–3 main tones, like red and cream with touches of green, or cozy neutrals with pops of plaid. Avoid large logos or neon colors that can be distracting. Some families choose to do Christmas pajamas, and that’s always super cute, too! And most importantly, make sure everyone feels comfortable in what they’re wearing!

2. Choose the Christmas Mini Session That Fits You Best
Our Christmas minis are designed to capture your family quickly and stress-free. To make the most of that time, keep accessories, toys, or extra outfit changes to a minimum. Simple is always best when you want to highlight genuine smiles and the connection between your family. If your kids need extra time to warm up, or if you want to capture more combinations of family portraits, the VIP Mini Session is the best fit. With extra time built in, you’ll have more flexibility and variety without feeling rushed.

In past years, families have decorated cookies, snuggled up with a Christmas storybook, or played with fun holiday props that we’ve created! 3. Prep the Kids (and Yourself!)
Little ones can be shy or unsure in new situations. Talk to them ahead of time about what’s going to happen: “We’re going to visit a fun Christmas set, smile for a few pictures, and then we’ll be done!” You can even show them my photo to introduce me to your kids, so they are familiar with me before the session. My elves and I all adore children and love getting to know them throughout your experience. We’ve worked with all kinds of kids and are ready to bring the Christmas magic to your family. Bring along a favorite small toy or snack for after the session as a reward.

4. Arrive a Few Minutes Early
Nothing adds stress faster than running late. Plan to arrive a little early so you have time to settle in, fix any last-minute details, and get everyone comfortable before we start. This makes a huge difference in helping the session feel calm and fun instead of rushed. The more relaxed you are, the more your kids will be too.

5. Focus on the Fun
Your family doesn’t need to be “picture perfect” to create beautiful images. Focus on being present with your family, and let us capture those genuine connections. Kids might giggle, wiggle, or give silly grins, and that’s part of the charm!
Kids love the activities we put together every year, such as pretending to open presents, reading together by the Christmas tree, or sharing a big family hug. These natural activities, built into many of our sessions, bring out genuine smiles and holiday magic.
