We had our second “Nicholas” in as many weeks when Nicholas A visited the studio for HIS polka dot cake smash session! What a spring it has been for cake smashes and I love every one of them! It is so awesome to be able to collaborate on themes for these and see the faces of the child and parents when they see what I came up with! This time, we went back to a popular favorite with our blues and greens polka dot cake smash theme since it perfectly matched the colors Nicholas’s mom had picked out for his birthday party. The only additional was a special little turtle we added to the top of his, VERY, large cupcake made by Betty’s Cake Creations. Nicholas wasn’t too sure about me at first. I tell parents, this is NORMAL! Imagine being 1 and thrust into an unknown environment with a big flash going off in your face? This is why I always am super patient with my youngest clients. No timers in my studio – if we need 5 extra minutes, we take 5 extra minutes! Once we brought out the blocks (my secret last-resort weapon for non-smiling children) he was all smiles! He wasn’t too sure about the cake, but we played a fun game of “hide the pacifier” in the cake and that gave him the chance to smash it even more! We had a great session together and I love how messy he was at the end!
