60th Birthday Party Photography | Farmington, CT

Here we highlight the special 60th birthday party photography for an extended family in Farmington, Connecticut! The guest of honor’s daughter had contacted me over the winter time to plan for this special event to take place in May. Their goal was for it to be a surprise party (of course Dad found out later!), and it was going to center around a Norweigan Brunch in the morning (that I would photograph), and a Kentucky Derby party in the afternoon with other family and friends. Let me tell you, this family knows how to throw a party AND cook! The Mom’s side of the family is from Norway and a lot of their cooking traditions have been passed down. So it was important for me to not only capture portraits and the event taking place, but all of the food and preparations! When we arrived (my husband assisting!), we set up in their beautifully landscaped backyard for family portraits and photographed some of the details inside and outside as everyone was finishing getting ready. The guest of honor’s grandbaby was the star of the show, and at just 6 months old everyone wanted him in a photo as you will see! He handled being passed around the family VERY well, and it was a lot of fun capturing all of the different family groups. As more guests arrived and food started being organized, I wanted to photograph the family in their preparation roles (and even learned a thing or two about the traditions!). When the spread was complete it was amazing! And all of the guests were very excited to fill their plates with all of the homemade Norwegian goodness. As brunch was winding down, Mom stood up to give a short speech about her husband which was so sweet! Toasting was another important tradition and we finished the afternoon with some additional family portraits before wrapping up as a mean game of wiffle ball was on! It was such an honor to be asked to help capture this special milestone for their birthday party photography. Many times important events are difficult to host AND photograph while feeling pulled in a lot of different directions!
