A newborn photoshoot typically lasts between 90 minutes to 3+ hours, depending on the session type you are selecting. This allows ample time for feeding, diaper changes, and comforting as needed to ensure your baby is relaxed and comfortable throughout the session. My priority is creating a stress-free environment for both you and your baby.

While the ideal time for newborn photos is within the first two weeks after birth, I understand that circumstances can vary. Older newborns can still be photographed beautifully with adjustments to posing and styling. Feel free to discuss your situation with me, and we’ll plan a session that works best for your family and your little one, regardless of their age. In-home sessions can also be a little more flexible in the first 4 weeks.

Absolutely! Including siblings in your newborn’s photoshoot is a wonderful way to capture the growing bonds within your family. I strive to make the session enjoyable for brothers and sisters too, ensuring they feel involved and important during this special family time.

Yes, I offer in-home newborn photography sessions for those who prefer the comfort and convenience of their own surroundings. This option can be particularly appealing if you wish to incorporate elements of your home into the photos or if traveling to a studio is not ideal for your family. *Posed Newborn Photography is only done at my studio, so this would incorporate more candid and lifestyle images.

Absolutely! Incorporating siblings and family photos into the cake smash session can make it even more special. We can capture a few family moments at the beginning of the session, but to ensure a positive experience for the baby, we do recommend the photoshoot is focused on them.

Our recommendation is a separate outdoor family photography appointment to focus more time on family photos.

To keep your little one comfortable and happy, I recommend bringing no more than two outfits to the session—one for the initial portraits and another for the cake smash. Frequent changes can be unsettling for babies at this age, so limiting outfit swaps helps maintain a calm and enjoyable atmosphere. We also have a small Client Closet of simple and timeless outfits you can borrow as well!

Not all little ones are keen on diving into their birthday cake, and that’s perfectly okay! I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to help make the session fun, regardless of how much they interact with the cake. We can explore alternative playful activities that capture their personality and joy. It’s also a big reason that we utilize portraits and/or the tub bath to capture other fun parts of the photoshoot in case they don’t like the cake. We will also discuss ways you can prepare in advance of the photoshoot for a better experience!

We ALWAYS recommend that your child has been exposed to a frosted cupcake (or similar) as well as wheat, dairy, and eggs in advance. If you already know of an allergy concern, we will ask that you bring an allergy free cake to use. We’d recommend Dee’s One Smart Cookie in Glastonbury! Or, we can discuss using another food that is appropriate for their age. Some have brought fruit, yogurt, spaghetti, or something else they really like and incorporate it into the theme! *The Flash Lady Photography and its bakers are not liable for food or soap/material allergies if you agree to use the items that we provide.

During our pre-session consultation, we’ll discuss wardrobe options and I can provide suggestions based on your personal style and the location of the shoot.

The ideal time for maternity photos is when you are between 28 and 35 weeks pregnant. During this period, the baby bump is beautifully pronounced yet still comfortable for posing. Scheduling during this window also helps ensure that you are feeling as energetic and radiant as possible for your photoshoot, and, that we’re seeing you before baby arrives if they decide to come early.

Absolutely! Your home, especially if it has a scenic yard or special features, can provide a perfect and meaningful backdrop for your family portraits. Certainly! While our standard session includes up to five immediate family members, your extended family—grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins—are all welcome to join in the fun for an additional fee, based on session type booked.

When it comes to dressing for your family photos, harmony is more stylish than uniformity. I recommend selecting 2-3 coordinating colors and a single pattern to bring everyone’s outfits together without matching exactly. Incorporating layers and accessories can also enhance the overall look. Don’t worry if you’re unsure about styling—I’m here to offer advice and ideas to make sure everyone looks their best.

After your photo session, I carefully edit and retouch your images to ensure the highest quality. Proofs are usually ready within a few days and final retouched images once chosen can be ready shortly after that as well. . However, if you need your images expedited for a specific deadline, please discuss this with us during the booking process, and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule.

Solid colors generally work best, as they avoid distraction and flatter your features. Additionally, consider professional hair and makeup services to ensure you look your best. My headshot packages typically include a pre-shoot consultation, the photography session, post-processing and editing of images, and a set number of final retouched images delivered in high-resolution digital format with necessary cropped versions to use for multiple mediums. Headshot sessions can be conducted in our fully equipped photography studio, where I control lighting and background elements to create the perfect shot. For clients who prefer a more personalized backdrop, I also offer on-location shoots that can incorporate your office, home, or another meaningful setting. Each location choice is discussed during the pre-session consultation to ensure it best fits your needs.

We use HEPA air filtration, an exhaust fan that moves air from the room, and sanitize all items touched between appointments. We ask that sick participants not attend, and we will try to reschedule if possible (this is NOT guaranteed due to scheduling of other clients).

Yes! All sessions included a starting amount of digital files with the option to purchase both additional digital and printed products.

Yes we do! Gift cards are processed through Square if you would like an electronic version, or we have paper gift certificates we can send to you as well. Gift certificates/cards do not expire in the State of Connecticut. I recommend reaching out to me for amount suggestions beforehand!

We do offer select Petite sessions for certain session types, however clients should discuss with me to ensure it’s the best fit for their family. We also sometimes offer speciality seasonal “micro” sessions during select times of the year. One of our most popular events is our Santa Experience & Family Christmas sessions! The good news — you don’t have to stress! I’ll guide you through every step of the process. Before your session, we’ll chat about your goals, wardrobe ideas, and color palette so everything feels cohesive and comfortable. My studio in Newington, CT includes a private changing area, vanity space for hair and makeup touch-ups, and a relaxing environment for kids and adults alike. Feel free to bring along a few outfit options, snacks for little ones, and anything that helps you or your family feel relaxed and natural in front of the camera.

Session lengths vary depending on the subject and the package you book. Babies between 3 and 12 months may only tolerate a shorter appointment, and those sessions are always baby-led. Young children sometimes need extra time to warm up, while others do best with a quicker pace. I will work with you ahead of time to determine the best option for your situation.

To ensure availability for your special event or session, it’s best to book as early as possible. For newborn photography, we recommend scheduling during your second trimester. Maternity photo sessions should also be booked around this time. For Cake Smash and custom-themed birthday sessions, planning at least 4-8 weeks in advance is ideal due to the need for detailed decor preparations. Family sessions are especially popular during the summer and fall, and our holiday-themed events, including the Christmas & Santa Experience, start booking in late August and typically sell out. • Session Fees are paid as a non-refundable retainer in order to plan for and book your appointment. Sessions are not officially booked without this and a signed contract in place.
• Due to the custom nature of photography and the artistic process, all sales are FINAL. This include sales processed during your Design & Ordering appointment. There are no returns or refunds once orders have been placed.
• Once an order has been picked up from the studio it is considered accepted as is. Unless a product is defective, the client will be responsible for changes or damage or replacements after accepting the item.
• In fairness to my business and my clients, pricing and policies are non-negotiable.
• 6.35% CT Sales Tax will be added to ALL Session Fees & product orders. Payment accepted is cash, cashier’s check, debit/credit card, and PayPal Credit (only) for payment plans.

All sessions are scheduled by appointment only per zoning requirements. Typically I offer weekday morning appointments for the little ones, weekday evening appointments (seasonally) for families/on location sessions, and morning Saturday appointments for studio sessions. Seasonally, I’ll also open up Saturday afternoon/evening appointments as well or as needed by the client. I am closed on Sundays.
