Maternity sessions at The Flash Lady Photography are designed around you, your partner, and any older children in your family. Whether this is your first baby or your third, every pregnancy is worth documenting, and every session is built around what matters most to you.
I recommend scheduling your maternity session between 28 and 36 weeks, when your bump is at its fullest and you are still comfortable and mobile. Sessions are available at my Newington studio or on location throughout Connecticut. Many of my maternity clients follow up with a newborn session once their baby arrives, and I love being part of both.
Studio Maternity Sessions
Sessions take place in my private Newington studio, where I use light and shadow to shape the mood of your images. I can go dramatic with silhouettes or keep things soft and intimate depending on what you’re after. Backgrounds include hand-painted fabric, timeless neutral paper, and a Light Wall that mimics natural window light for backlit, lifestyle-style portraits.
We’ll typically work through two outfit looks during your session. Depending on your session type, studio wardrobe pieces are available at no additional cost through my client closet, or I can help you coordinate something from your own wardrobe. For hair and makeup, our nearby partner KiSSandMaKeUp can help you complete your look.
In the comfort of my private studio, I craft each session to reflect your unique story using a palette of light and shadows. Studio maternity photography is where I shine—I love manipulating light to create a range of atmospheres, from dramatic silhouettes to softly lit, tender moments. You have the flexibility to choose from various backgrounds and lighting styles that best fit your vision.

During our session, we’ll typically explore two outfits to capture different facets of your personality and style. We can discuss a gown-rental add-on option if you’d prefer to have an outfit ready for you, or, I can help you with your own attire, taking care of all the details to ensure you have a beautiful, worry-free experience.
If you have something special from your own wardrobe or a new purchase, I’m here to help coordinate your outfits perfectly with our selection of hand-painted fabric backdrops and timeless, neutral paper backgrounds. We also have a beautiful NEW Light Wall that mimics window light, which can create gorgeous, backlit, and casual lifestyle portraits!

We’ll focus on capturing breathtaking portraits of you alone, celebrating the beauty and strength of your pregnancy. If your spouse or partner is part of this beautiful journey, I’d love to include them in the portraits as well. And if you have older children eager to be part of this special moment, they are more than welcome to join in the photos. One of the great advantages of studio photography is that we are not at the mercy of the weather, ensuring that your session is comfortable and controlled, no matter the season.

Outdoor Maternity Session
Outdoor sessions are a great fit if you want to shoot against a natural backdrop, have older kids who do better with room to move, or you just prefer the look of natural light and open space.
Choosing the Perfect Location
Connecticut has no shortage of beautiful settings, and I have a go-to list covering beaches, parks, rivers, and wooded trails. If there’s a spot that holds special meaning for you and your family, I’d love to explore it for your session.
Involving Your Loved Ones
Your partner and older children are welcome to join the session. Kids who have a hard time staying still in a studio tend to do much better with open space to move around in, and it’s a natural way to get the whole family involved before the baby arrives.
Planning for the Perfect Outdoor Session
Outdoor sessions require a bit of flexibility around weather, so I’ll work with you on scheduling if we need to adjust. I also factor in accessibility when choosing locations to make sure the session is comfortable for everyone.
Lifestyle Maternity Sessions
For a more personal feel, I can bring the studio to you. Shooting in your own home puts you in a familiar environment and naturally captures the space where you’ll be raising your baby.

Most clients go with something casual for at-home sessions, sometimes with a pop of color to add some vibrancy to the images. I can help you think through what will work best on camera and complement your space.

Before we shoot, I’ll walk you through how to prep your space so backgrounds are clean and uncluttered. Small adjustments make a bigger difference on camera than you might expect.

√ Planning Ahead: Plan to have these services completed before you arrive so we can get right to shooting from the start.
Wardrobe and Styling:
√ Client Closet: Studio wardrobe pieces are available at no additional cost through my client closet, and we will explore all options during your pre-session consultation.
√ Own Wardrobe: You are also welcome to bring pieces from your own wardrobe. Many clients mix a more glamorous look with something casual and it translates really well on camera.
Our 1st Year Baby Plan
The 1st Year Baby Plan is designed for families who want to document multiple milestones in their baby’s first year. Choose between capturing maternity, newborn, and first birthday, or focus on baby milestones with newborn, sit-up, and cake smash sessions.
Maternity Photography: Document your pregnancy with a full maternity session before your baby arrives.
Newborn Photos: Capture those first precious days with an intimate newborn session.
6-Month Sitter Photos or 1st Birthday Cake Smash: Mark your baby’s growth with either a milestone session or a first birthday cake smash.
Booking all three sessions together saves on individual session pricing and ensures a consistent look and quality across every milestone. Payments are spread across the year starting with a $400 booking fee, with the remaining balance divided into three payments due before each session.
