Lumberjack Birthday Cake Smash | Tolland, CT
You might remember this little guy who first came to see us during our Christmas sessions at the end of last year. We had so much fun getting to know him and hoped that we’d get to see him again soon! Then his Mom reached out hoping to plan for his upcoming first birthday and I was so excited to have the chance to work together again! Soon after, we planned for a lumberjack birthday cake smash to celebrate in January. Mom & Dad loved my regular outdoor theme but also planned on dressing him in popular black and red plaid. So I knew that incorporating some props and items that I had from a past lumberjack cake smash theme would give just the right amount of color pop and I’m so glad we went with it! We did some adorable photos with Mom & Dad first just to get warmed up and remind him that this was a safe space and all was ok! A few toys appeared (thank goodness for having a bunch on hand!) and we were friends again! He loved his custom birthday set, especially the woodland animals and wood pieces we put on the floor for confetti! Getting messy was not a problem at ALL with such a yummy and smushable cake from The Kakery! And how about a little tub bath to finish cleaning up afterwards? We had such a great gallery to present to his parents and there were so many to choose from! It was great to see this family again and I can’t wait to work together again for another milestone, family session, or holiday photos!

Girly Pumpkin Cake Smash | West Hartford, CT
I just loved when I get to use this theme again! Fall is always a perfect time to celebrate first birthdays with a photoshoot, and what better a theme for a baby girl than with a girly pumpkin cake smash? It’s always popular for October birthdays, and I was so happy when Mom picked this to use for her daughter. You might remember her big sister from a few years ago who chose our winter one-derland and theme for her cake smash. She had a tough time for her day, so it was baby sister’s time to shine! And shine she did! We utilized our adorable bohemian bed scene for some of her initial portraits first. She loved the bed and playing some silly games with Daddy who made sure she didn’t crawl off the bed! Then we moved over the the pumpkin set area. I love how this little refresh of this theme came together. I even incorporated some new props and some of my farmhouse props in and it looked amazing! When it was cake time, little girl needed a little bit of time to figure out how good it was, and then she dove right in! She had so much fun smashing her cake and the tub bath afterwards. We had a beautiful gallery for her to enjoy and it looked amazing in her Signature Album that her parents chose to cherish these images in. I hope you enjoy some of her favorites below!

Pink Floral Cake Smash II | Farmington, CT
And just like that…another little one in this family is celebrating their first birthday! It seems like just yesterday that her big sister was at my Newington, CT photography studio for her bohemian cake smash. She had so much personality and gave us so many big smiles! It’s always fun getting to see the next sibling come in and how they are the same and different! We planned with her Grandpas for a pink floral cake smash theme which is always so popular with the girls. She wore this adorable little unicorn outfit to start and it was so cute! We took some portraits and she was very active, but gave us some really unique looks and angles that we just loved! After some balloon play, we changed outfits to something simple and pink and moved over to the floral set area. She loved holding the flowers and giving silly looks to her Mom & Grandpas! Then it was cake time! We weren’t as sure about cake as our big sister was at first. But with some cheerios and frosting tastes we figured it out that this was AMAZING! After that, she was all for eating cake, playing with the big spoon, and getting cleaned up in the little tub bath afterwards. We had such a great session, and I love the photos that they chose for her Signature Album with of course a matching “Brag Book” for her Grandpas to remember them by! Pink Floral Smash | West Hartford, CT
One common thing that a lot of our cake smash themes have had in common over the last 2 years has been…florals! Lots of Moms have loved all of our custom cake smash themes that incorporate florals and we love doing different things with them! Mom had asked for my pink floral smash which I’ve always loved for the hanging pink flower garland in particular! It really makes the background pop while also allowing for a variety of other flowers and props in front. The little one came to my Newington, CT photography studio on the serious side, as many of our toddlers have been lately! COVID has very much adjusted their ability to see our social cues and experience with seeing other people outside their own household. So it takes a little bit of extra time to get used to their new place. That’s ok! We only schedule one client per day in the studio to ensure they have time to get acquainted. And once we took out the balloons and started playing with Dad, she was a very happy girl! It’s amazing how just changing a few things can make them smile and forget about what we are doing. She looked so cute in the set as well and loved checking out the paper confetti on the floor. At cake time she was ALL IN! SO much so, that she accidentally stuck some frosting a bit too far up her nose! Clean up was not that desirable, but good thing we keep some wipes nearby for those mishaps! With some cake play and bath time play, we were good as new. I just love how sweet her photos came out and her ordered Signature Album and prints and digital files were just stunning! Elegant Boho Cake Smash | South Windsor, CT
Another elegant boho cake smash in the studio and I just love it! Parents love this theme for their little girls especially, and I can see why! It’s such a timeless look that you’ll be able to enjoy for many years to come. Mom called me hoping to squeeze in a cake smash first birthday photoshoot for her daughter who was about to turn 1! Although we try to book these in advance as much as possible, sometimes life gets in the way. And in this case, she was gearing up for her special birthday ceremony in which the hair is all shaved off. So time was of the essence to get this done! And I was so happy that I had an opening in my schedule to fit them in. She arrived and wore an absolutely beautiful navy and pink dress for her pre-cake portraits and just loved smiling and playing with our balloons! Next we moved onto the actual boho themed set that I had put together for the cake smash part. We definitely enjoyed smashing the cute cake from The Kakery (no so much eating it, although we did get it all over our face, hands, and feet!). Lastly it was time for a tub bath to get all that frosting off and take some additional photos as well. She loved splashing in the tub! And gave us so many more adorable smiles (and tongue-funny faces)! I love all of the photos that we put together and Mom & Dad had so much variety to choose from. I hope to see this little cutie again for a future milestone, family, or holiday session!
